Overcome

And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. (Revelation 12:3, 9-11 NKJV)

How do you overcome the devil whose ability to accuse you before God is inexhaustible? Day and night the devil is screaming out your sins before the throne of God.

The blood, the blood, the blood. When the devil accuses you, plead the blood of the Lamb; it has cleansed you and covers you. And that’s your testimony: You are a sinner. Nothing you have ever done makes you righteous enough to receive eternal life. But because you have believed in your heart and confessed with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord and Savior, you are the righteousness of God. Lastly, there’s the fact that, because Jesus died for you, you live for Him, dying to yourself. That’s how you overcome the enemy.

So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law. (Galatians 5:1 NLT)

Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace. Well then, since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not! Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you. Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living. (Romans 6:14-18 NLT)

Some of you want so badly to be slaves to righteous living, but you don’t know how. Everyone around you says your past precludes any righteousness for you — ever. Others are blackmailing you in order to force you to keep sinning. You feel trapped. What do you do?

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. (2 Corinthians 12:9 NKJV)

What do you do? Turn it all over to God. Admit that you can’t see the way out, and ask Him to show you. Then go in the direction He points you, and don’t look back.

The devil will tell you there’s no way out, that you are what you’ve done and what’s been done to you. The devil will tell you that no one in the place where you’re going will love you once they find out what you’ve done. Well, the devil is a liar and, Jesus says, the father of lies.

How do I know that? Because just by reading this you’re already going the way Jesus wants you to go. You’ve run into me, and I love you. How can I know that when I don’t know what you’ve done? Because my work experience has shown me the very worst of humanity. I’ve thought about whether I could reject you, keep you at a distance if you’ve done any or all of those things, and I can’t. You’re headed this way, and I love you, no matter what. Shut your ears to the devil’s lies, and turn it all over to Jesus.
